Indian Navy got its second Scorpene-class attack submarine INS Khanderi, after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, dedicated it to the nation on Saturday. India’s first Scorpene-class attack submarine is named INS Kalvari in December 2017.

ils about India’s second Scorpene-class attack submarine. The INS Khanderi is a conventional diesel-electric submarine and has been manufactured by the state-run Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited in Mumbai. Its construction had begun in April 2009. It was constructed in five separate segments which were welded together later.
• The motif of the attack submarine is inspired by the fish 'Kanneri' which is found in the Arabian Sea. The fish is known for hunting while swimming close to the bottom of the ocean using the barbells to find their prey. The fish uses its long serrated saw to kill and shred their prey before eating it.
• INS Khanderi is fully weaponised to attack its enemies. It is equipped with a set of missiles and torpedoes that can be fired upon detecting enemy targets.
• INS Khanderi has been equipped with advanced Exocet SM39 anti-ship missile.
• It has a sonar suite that enables long-range detection and classification of targets. The submarine's warfare capability comprises a cluster of integrated advanced weapons and sensors. It has undertaken multiple torpedo and missile firing trials to validate its fighting capability.
• The INS Khanderi has an overall length of 67.5 metres and a height of about 12.3 metres. The hull form, the fin and the hydroplanes are specifically designed to produce minimum underwater resistance. The power of the submarine's motor is provided by 360 battery cells, each weighing 750 kg. The motor -- known as Permanently Magnetised Propulsion Motor -- is extremely silent in nature. The stealth of the INS Khanderi is further enhanced through the mounting of equipment inside the pressure hull on shock absorbing cradles.
• Under a programme called Project 75, India is committed to building six Scorpene-class submarines at a cost of around ₹25,000 crore.
• The programme has been undertaken with Transfer of Technology from Naval Group, a state-run submarine builder in France, which was formerly known as DCNS.
• The first INS Khanderi was commissioned in December 1968 and pulled out of service in 1989.

Navy set to induct submarine INS Khanderi.

Key features of the submarine include a state-of-the-art technology which reduces its noise under the sea.

The Indian Navy on Saturday will induct its indigenously built Kalvari class diesel-electric submarine.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will commission the submarine which will be known as INS Khanderi.

Khanderi is built at state-run Mazgaon Dock Limited and underwent rigorous sea trials for over two and a half years. Khanderi is inspired by the fish name Kanneri found in the Arabian sea, which very well known for hunting while swimming close to the bottom of the ocean, using barbells to find their prey and use their long serrated saw to kill the prey.
Key features of the submarine include a state-of-the-art technology which reduces its noise under the sea. Another crucial feature of the new submarine is that unlike previous requirement of 60 crew, its maximum requirement is 36 crew. It saves oxygen availability and increases its capacity to stay underwater for long periods, he said.
The submarine's motto 'Akhand Abhedya Adrishya' signifies the unity of the crew, indomitable spirit and stealth of the platform. The motto keeps alive the spirit to keep the edge 'sharp and ready' for combat at all times. Along with the commissioning of the submarine Khanderi, Navy will also get its first biggest dry dock of the Indian Navy. (Source:ndtv)

ROSTEC begins upgrade of Indian Navy Aircraft Carrier INS Vikramaditya

Russian state-owned technology company Rostec has commenced the modernisation and upgrade of aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya deployed into service with the Indian Navy.

As part of the project, Rostec subsidiary Technodinamika is carrying out installation supervision of marine hydraulic systems on the Indian Navy vessel.
The upgrade will help support and strengthen the development of military-technical cooperation between India and Russia.
The project also includes the planned commissioning and sea trials of the aircraft carrier.
“With a displacement of 44,500t, INS Vikramaditya can travel at a speed of more than 30k and is capable of carrying out operations up to a range of more than 7,000nm.”
Technodinamika chief executive officer Igor Nasenkov said: “Installation supervision of marine hydraulic systems at Vikramaditya is an important step in the upgrade of what is currently the most powerful aircraft carrier of the Indian Navy.
“The Vikramaditya project is extremely promising taking into account the long-term development program of the Indian aircraft fleet, under which by 2027 it will acquire two more ships.”
Designed as an upgraded model of the Russian Navy’s Kiev-class Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier, INS Vikramaditya will help replace the Indian Navy’s Centaur-class aircraft carrier INS Viraat.
The vessel is equipped with GS-1MF and GS-3 marine hydraulic systems that are used for refuelling, cleaning, and pressurisation of the hydraulic systems of aircraft and helicopters that form part of the carrier’s air-capable wing.
The 284m-long vessel was commissioned into service with the Indian Navy on 16 November 2013.
With a displacement of 44,500t, INS Vikramaditya can travel at a speed of more than 30k and is capable of carrying out operations up to a range of more than 7,000nm.
With a total of 22 decks, the carrier can accommodate the MiG-29K, Kamov 31, Kamov 28, Seaking, ALH and Chetak aircraft.(Source: Indiandefensenews.in)
