Cabinet approves MoU between India and Indonesia on combating illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and its precursorss.

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Indonesia on combating illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and its precursors.

The MoU will help in mutual cooperation in regulation of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and in combating drug trafficking. It will come into force on the date of signing and will remain in effect for a period of five years.
India has signed similar Conventions/MoUs/Agreements with the 37 countries.
Salient features of the MoU are as under:
• The MoU shall facilitate and enhance the cooperation between the two countries in combating illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and its precursors as defined by the United Nations International Drug Control Conventions.
• The cooperation under this MoU includes the exchange of information on existing legal instruments of national legislation of both countries in combating the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs psychotropic substances and its precursors, allowing and assisting each other in the use of controlled delivery operation with a view to identifying persons involved in illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and its precursors and essential chemicals, prevention of money laundering.
• Under the MoU, there is a provision of maintaining the secrecy of information and documents obtained in accordance with this MoU.

MoUs signed and 6 at an advanced stage under 'Adopt a Heritage' Scheme: Culture Ministry.

The Ministry of Culture has said that 'Adopt a Heritage' Scheme of the Government of India is making good progress.

The scheme is being implemented by the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Culture and Archaeological Survey of India. Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Shri Raghvendra Singh today said that under 'Adopt a Heritage' Scheme, three MoUs have already been signed and six are at an advanced stage and 31 more Adarsh Monuments are enlisted for coverage under the scheme. The Project aims to develop synergy among all partners to effectively promote responsible tourism, he added.
The schemes aims to involve public sector companies, private sector companies and corporate citizens/individuals to take up the responsibility for making our heritage and tourism more sustainable through development, operation and maintenance of world-class tourist infrastructure and amenities at ASI/ State heritage sites and other important tourist sites in India.
The Government has carried out Critical Gap Analysis in respect of the heritage monuments of importance and identified public conveniences and civic amenities which can be provided in these monuments with the involvement of corporate sector, PSUs etc. under the CSR activities to enhance visitor experience.
The project primarily focuses on providing basic amenities that includes cleanliness, public conveniences, drinking water, ease of access for differently abled and senior citizens, standardized signage, illumination and advanced amenities such as surveillance system, night viewing facilities, tourism facilitation center and an enhanced tourism experience that will result in more tourist footfalls, both domestic and foreign.
The response to the project has been very encouraging as the agencies who have come forward for adoption includes not only public and private industry/individuals but also schools and law firms. (Source: The Business Standard)

20 states sign MoU with health ministry to implement Modicare.

The success of the AB-NHPM scheme, dubbed as Modicare, hinges upon the active participation of the states, says J.P. Nadda, union health minister.

At least 20 states signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ministry of health and family welfare on Thursday committing to launch the Ayushman Bharat – National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM).
Dubbed as “Modicare” the NHPM, is being described as the world’s largest health insurance scheme. It will be cashless and paperless access to health services up to Rs5 lakh per year to poor and vulnerable people identified as per the socio-economic caste census.
“We shall work with the spirit of cooperative federalism, to perfect this largest health assurance scheme of the world,” J.P. Nadda, union health minister said during a health conclave held in New Delhi. “The success of the scheme hinges upon the active participation of the states. States need to own the scheme while Centre will design the policy framework with all possible flexibility and support,” said Nadda.
The beneficiaries under the scheme can avail services anywhere in India and it is expected to bring a visible relief to the target families by mitigating the financial risk arising out of catastrophic health episodes. During the conclave, model tender documents, final operational guidelines for Modicare also were released which are focused on beneficiary centric delivery of services while ensuring there is no compromise on the quality of healthcare services and preventing frauds.
“Twenty states have so far signed MoU and the number may increase up to 25 states by the end of this month. Training and demonstration of empanelment software will be conducted in next two weeks and States can operationalize empanelment of hospitals by 1st of July,” said CEO AB-NHPM, Indu Bhushan. The scheme will be available for the beneficiary families at the point of service in both public and private empanelled hospitals across India. The private healthcare providers have welcomed Modicare and expressed hope that it should become a financially viable scheme with timely reimbursement.
“It is indeed a bold and aspirational scheme. The private sector certainly wants to participate and collaborate to help meet the aspirations and hopes that the pricing and timeliness of payments is taken care of to make the partnership a viable one,” said Rajit Mehta, managing director and CEO of Max Healthcare. India Signs MOU With World EXPO 2020 Dubai.

India and World Expo 2020 signed participants contract today for India’s pavilion in the prestigious World Expo 2020 held once in 5 years. The contract was signed by Shri Manoj K. Dwivedi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India on Indian side and Mr. Najeeb Mohammed Al Ali, Executive Director, Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau on behalf of Expo 2020 at the Expo site in the presence of Shri Navdeep Suri, Ambassador of India to UAE, Shri Vipul, Consul General of India, Dubai and Dr. Tarek Shayya, Board Director-Chief International Participants Officer, Dubai Expo.
The contract provides for the setting up of India pavilion at Expo 2020 on an extra large plot (about one acre) in the ‘Opportunity’ segment. This is tune with the great opportunity for economic activity that India provides today on the way to becoming a $5 trillion economy by 2025. Focus will be given to India’s advances in Space, Pharma, IT, Renewable Energy, Telecom sectors.
The pavilion will be developed in public-private partnership mode. Leading industries and businesses will work with Central government and State governments to participate in India’s pavilion. A number of state governments, various ministries of central government and major industry associations and businesses have shown interest in partnering and participating in World Expo 2020 which will take place for six months beginning October 2020.
Commerce & Industry Minister, Shri Suresh Prabhu has expressed his happiness on the signing of the contract. Commerce Secretary, Smt. Rita Teaotia has held meetings with stakeholders and industry associations like FICCI and CII for helping the Government in making India’s participation a memorable and befitting one. (Source: PIB)
